PRECIOUS METAL RECYCLING
AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

SAXONIA’s raw material base is derived almost exclusively from recycled material streams. Recovering gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium and iridium from precious metal-bearing waste, scrap and residues from a wide range of sources is one of SAXONIA’s core competencies – and the foundation of our customers’ trust. As a recycling specialist, we recover your precious metal values using state-of-the-art refining technologies – quickly, transparently and with maximum recovery rates.

As the oldest and today one of the leading names in the refining business, SAXONIA provides a comprehensive range of recycling services: from economic feasibility assessments, waste management and logistics to state-of-the-art sampling and analytical methods. The result: precious metals of the highest purity, produced economically and in an environmentally responsible manner.

EFFICIENT AND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE

SAXONIA’s recycling processes – both pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical – are based on state-of-the-art technological standards in precious metal recovery and environmental technology. This enables us to guarantee our customers across all relevant industries and sectors highly efficient precious metal recovery from refining materials, sweeps and ashes, using environmentally sound processes through to marketable fine metal of the highest purity:

Raw materials

The extraction of precious metals is carried out from metallic materials (refinery residue) and non-metallic materials (scrap), which include also catalyst materials amongst. Thanks to the recovery technology used at SAXONIA , it is possible to a very wide range of raw materials to process. Both in terms of the precious metal content and the material compositions as well as as well as with regard to the condition or the form of the supplied raw materials.

Waste from a wide variety of sectors
  • Precious metals processing industry
  • Recyclers and refineries
  • Precious metal buyers
  • Jewellery making
  • Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Sensor Technology
  • Electrochemistry
  • Catalyst manufacturer
  • Dental industry
  • Film and photography equipment
  • Chemical Industry
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Coin – and minting works

Refinery by-products are high-quality metallic raw materials that often contain high contents of one or more precious metals are found. Such material is as a rule homogenised during the sampling by means of melting homogenised, sampled and analysed

  • Scrap gold and scrap silver (ingots / blocks / granules)
  • Anodes and anode residues
  • Jewellery materials, scrap jewellery and old jewellery
  • Electrolytic silver (industrial silver)
  • Silverware (silver goods / silverware / silver cutlery items)
  • Silver battery plates / -electrodes
  • Dental scrap (dental gold, Hg < 10 ppm)
  • Precious metal targets
  • Pt / PtRh / PtPdRh scrap from the glass industry
  • Precious metal-bearing concentrates from the waste processing
  • Manufacturing, production line, stamping, and casting scrap
  • Laboratory equipment / Laboratory crucibles
  • Coin – and medal scrap
  • PtPdRh catalyst networks
  • Contacts and contact materials
  • Metallic residues (fusible)
  • Solder and solder scraps (metallic)

The field of non-meltable raw materials is extremely diverse and encompasses scrapings, ash and residues from a wide variety of industries, manufacturing processes and waste recovery operations. Consequently, scrap material is usually very heterogeneous in composition and often requires a relatively complex homogenisation process. This is frequently carried out in multi-stage homogenisation, separation or fractionation operations
(incineration, annealing, drying, grinding, mixing, melting).

  • Jeweller’s scribbles
  • Ash from the waste pre-treatment
  • Dental scrapings (mercury-free, Hg < 10 ppm)
  • Residues / Sludge / Ash from film production / film recycling
  • Filter residue / Filter cake / Filter materials
  • Furnace breakouts / Crucible materials / Fireclay
  • Electroplating waste (ion-exchange resins / filter materials /
    precious metal slurries)
  • Ceramic production waste and scrap from the electronics
manufacturing sector (components / sensors / printed hybrid circuits)
  • Powder and paste residues, tins and cartridges
(conductive pastes, solder pastes, conductive adhesives, conductive varnishes)
  • Electronic scrap (sorted – high-grade only)
  • Polishing residues / sludge from precious metal processing
  • Slag, scale and dust from precious metal processing
  • Abrasives / Blasting grit
  • Concentrates and distillates
  • Waste from lotteries and unclaimed prizes
  • Cementates

The recycling of used, precious-metal-containing automotive exhaust – as well as industrial – and environmental catalysts is a distinctive
area of expertise of SAXONIA and a key focus of our precious metal recovery. Our focus includes industrial catalysts on
various support materials (activated carbon, ceramic catalyst supports based on inorganic, non-metallic bases) and in
various forms. Furthermore we recover the precious metals from car exhaust catalytic converters: monolith and diesel particulate filter material,
as well as washcoat and production waste from the catalysator manufacturing process are typical raw materials for SAXONIA.

Industrial catalysts

  • containing Pt, Pd, Rh on an activated carbon base
  • containing Au, Ag, Pt, Pd, Rh on a ceramic catalyst support material (oxide-based, such as: aluminium silicates, calcium carbonate, silicon dioxide, zeolites) or natural substrates (silica, kaolin, bentonite, pumice) in the form of powder, moulded pieces, extruded products, spheres, granules or honeycomb structures

Car and exhaust catalytic converters

  • Ceramic catalysts (monoliths, crushed monoliths,
    ground monoliths)
  • Diesel particulate filter (SiC-based)
  • Washcoat

Care and trust
for your values

The recycling of precious metals creates high value. Trust is an indispensable prerequisite for a successful partnership. SAXONIA guarantees you therefore the highest level of transparency in the divorce proceedings, absolute accuracy in the analysis and particular care in the environmentally friendly recovery of your precious metals. This is supplemented by a comprehensive traceable, traceable documentation of the entire recycling process.

Sampling

Sampling

A representative sample to obtain, is the start of everything, whether on a fiduciary basis or in conjunction with you.

  • Preparation – Homogenisation
  • Raw materials: Melting into blocks, ingots or granules / Sawing or. Drilling of test ingots
  • Scrapings: drying, annealing, grinding, sieving, mixing and melting the metallic components of composite samples
  • Microsurgical preparation – collection of laboratory samples
